The Promised Neverland is a manga written by Kaiu Shirai magazine, drawn by Posuka Demizu, and published in Shūeisha’s Weekly on June 22, 2010. As of December 2020, the manga has over 26 million copies in circulation, including digital versions, including making it one of the best-selling manga series.

Emma, Norman and Ray are three 11-year-old orphans living in a Victorian orphanage run by a mother figure, Isabella. Their lives flow peacefully, between play, rest and daily aptitude tests, the results of which are used to compile a ranking of the most intellectually gifted children. From the orphanage it is impossible to see the outside world as it is surrounded by high walls which are forbidden to approach.

One day Koni, a six-year-old girl, is adopted by a family and is preparing to leave the facility, forgetting a doll she loved very much. Therefore, Emma and Norman decide to return the toy to their friend before she is gone forever and head for the only door in the wall. Once there, the two discover a shocking truth: after seeing Conny’s dead body, they discover the existence of monstrous beings (“demons”) and their business with Isabella, who gives them children to send to ” the rich” to eat them.

Discovering the truth and realizing what fate awaits them all after telling Ray everything, the three boys decide to join forces to try to escape from the orphanage, which turns out to be a farm. Escape, however, turns out to be more difficult than expected, as Isabella senses the boys’ plans and tries to thwart them.

Despite the odds, Emma, Ray and the older children manage to escape, leaving Norman and the younger children still in the hands of Isabella at the farm. Finding themselves in the outside world, the group of boys try to survive by relying on messages left by a certain William Minerva and also enlisting the help of two special demons, Mujika and Sonju. Thanks to them, Emma and Ray learn about the divide between the Demon World and the Human World, discovering what lies behind the farms.
